Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is a first-person adventure game set in the fictional Yaughton Valley in the British Shropshire countryside. The game starts on 6th June 1984 at the moment the world ends. It is set in an open world environment and has a non-linear story told through six characters (Frank, Jeremy, Kate, Lizzie, Stephen, Wendy) tied to specific landmarks. The protagonist is not defined, but can move around freely in the environment including a main village, woods and many other buildings. There are five main areas to the game and the focus is on unraveling the story, getting to know the characters and their relationships, and piecing together the information to form a coherent narrative.
The entire environment is abandoned and devoid of life. Information is gathered through observation, reading notes, listening to recordings etc. At certain points swirls of golden lights appear that can be tuned like a radio using the controller's gyroscope function. By making the light brighter conversations and interactions from the past are triggered, but only through audio. Some of these lights also guide the protagonist in a certain direction. There is no HUD, inventory or puzzle-solving. No pointers are provided for noticing certain clues or reaching certain goals. Interaction is available in various ways, from manipulating items in the environment to opening doors.
