In Scooby-Doo!: Show Down In Ghost Town the gang (Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo) stop for a snack at Los Burritos. They soon discover that the town is haunted by a phantom known as "the Faceless Rider", a strange creature with glowing eyes. The game starts after the gang have arrived in the town. There's a strange ghostly noise coming from somewhere and the friends decide to explore to find its source. As they do so they will encounter new screens and characters who will provide clues and information. At various points in the game the player will encounter puzzles such as how to release a trapped character. There is also an arcade type mini game called 'Pie Noon' in which Scooby and the phantom exchange pies in the town's high street. Most screens have non game-related hotspots that trigger short animations such as moths flying from a curtain or of snakes and beetles appearing from under rocks and floorboards. When all characters have given their clues to the team the player must find one additional vital clue. Once this has been done Fred will take the player to the screen where all the clues are displayed and from here the player selects their guess as to the identity of the 'faceless Rider'. The game also features several mini-games (predominantly puzzle-based). The game has no save / load facility. Before starting a game the player must enter their name and the game records progress automatically. Downloadable content includes a poster and a Scooby-Doo message Mate for the desktop.

The game starts with an animated intro in which the gang arrive at a town in the American desert. On the way in they pass the phantom.

So, after explaining that a ghost town is just a deserted town and not a town full of ghosts, the team stand expectantly waiting for the player to choose a direction in which to explore.

Exploring soon begins to uncover a plot. Someone's been digging here and the oddly coloured bricks sparkle. Most screens have hotspots that trigger a humorous action like the appearance of this snake

Here's the gang in the town's saloon with one of the first puzzles, there's someone chained in the chair and the player must find the hidden keys to release him

Whenever a key is found there's a short animation showing Daphne unlocking a chain. Eventually all the locks are unfastened and the character, Prof. Artie Fackt, can provide information.

Now the professor has been released a pie appears in the lower right of the screen. Clicking on this triggers the mini-game 'Pie Noon'.

Pie Noon. Scooby must throw pies at the phantom while avoiding the pies the phantom throws. The town clock serves as a game timer and the rest of the gang run across the screen getting in the way.

The game's inventory is accessed via the mystery bus in the lower left. It drives across the screen revealing its contents. Here Shaggy won't explore with Daphne until he's fed Scooby snacks

Shaggy & co find the saloon's stage. There are noises coming from beneath the trap door. The puzzle here is how to lift those sandbags out of the way to see what's beneath.

Fun fact: the Mystery Machine's name was translated in two variants in earlier and later Scooby-Doo games. I prefer the later version.
