Escape The Museum 2 is the sequel to a hidden object game where a mother and daughter got trapped inside a museum after an earthquake and had to find their way out by solving puzzles in each collapsed room. This game tells the parallel story of the father: he was sleeping on the couch when the quake struck, and rushed to the streets after being rudely waked by the tremors, desperately trying to find the way to the museum by solving puzzles on the ruined roads and buildings, to finally reunite with his family.
The main character must rescue trapped earthquake victims and overcome the many obstacles found on the disaster areas, like gaps in the terrain and destroyed staircases, to keep moving closer towards the museum. As in the first title, there are clearly defined sections for the adventure and seek-and-find gameplay. The puzzles are self-contained, with the main character collecting a series of inventory tools while searching the few scenes contained in each chapter location. These items appear at the bottom of the screen, from where they can be dragged and dropped on appropriate and logical places of the scenery to accomplish some goal or perform an action.
When exploring the location, certain portions of the scenery shimmer to indicate the presence of one of the hidden object screens, where the objective is to find and click on all the items from a list at the right side. Some of the collected objects are stored in the inventory to be used later on the adventure section. The hint button is a homeless old man that throws empty bottles at one of the required objects to show its position. He also gives a series of clues on the adventure portion. Some of the adventure locations have special items, lost animals and people that are required to complete the optional side missions. Finished levels can be replayed to achieve a higher star rating.
