The Elysian Fields

The Elysian Fields and Other Greek Myths is a classical Greek themed graphical adventure game for the Apple II.

The player has been transported from the present day to the land of the classical Greek gods. The adventure game is played via typing VERB NOUN commands. All graphics are displayed using colored graphics, and there is also an option for a text-only mode. During their adventure, the player will intermittently get stopped by a variety of Greek gods and monsters. These can be dispersed with the correct item, but will kill the player if they stay in the area more than one turn. Dangers include: a Greek warrior, an obnoxious harpy, a terrifying giant, a monstrous turtle, the god Hephaestus, the god Zeus, a monstrous hydra, a fire breathing chimera, and a group of Stymphalian birds.

The player will visit a number of classical Greek sites including the Oracle at Delphi ,the Temple of Athena, and a village of Amazons. The player most visit the eponymous Elysian fields and learn the words spoken by the rabbit who lives there. Finally, using Zeus' thunderbolt and a magic shield, they can open a time portal guarded by the great monster Briareus, and return to the present day.
