Under That Rain is a psychological horror point-and-click graphic adventure game set in Paris, France. The player controls a Parisian social worker named André Lacroix who one day finds a case file that has been left outside his apartment door. The documents inside refer to Adrien Lazarius, an orphaned child who has been adopted by the Lazarius family in a manor in the Parisian countryside. André recognizes the manor as being the place where he lived in his infancy, though his memories of the time are hazy at best. To get answers for himself as well as Adrien, André ventures out into the night where the rain never seems to stop and horrors lurk around every corner.

The game features an inventory system where items collected can be dragged out of André's backpack and into the world to interact with objects and solve puzzles. The player has several conversation options to choose from when conversing with characters, which can reveal clues about the story or current objective. At least one encounter with a dangerous creature contains a quick-time event where the player must react quickly to avoid being killed.
